Holiday Cookie Stroll in Historic Bass River
A Benefit for the South Yarmouth Library

The Thirteenth Annual Holiday Cookie Stroll will take place on Saturday, December 8, from 10:00-3:00, rain or shine, in historic Bass River. This walking tour will feature several private homes, five additional stops, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. The tour also includes an Open House at the South Yarmouth Library, where cider and cranberry bread will be served.
All of the proceeds support the South Yarmouth Library. Funds have provided such programs and materials as the Whoville Express, summer reading, museum passes, the Sunday Author Series, computers and other equipment, and new print and eBooks.
If you would like to be listed in the ticket booklet as a sponsor of the stroll, please send a check for $25, made out to “SYLA,” along with the form below, to the South Yarmouth Library Association, P.O. Box 630, South Yarmouth, MA 02664, or drop off your check at the Library. This year’s deadline is October 5. The SYLA is a 501 ( c ) 3 nonprofit organization. Your sponsorship is a donation deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Thanks from the South Yarmouth Library Association!

Have You Been to
the Little Corner Bookstore
at the South Yarmouth Library?

The South Yarmouth Library Association organizes a great ongoing book sale in the northwest corner of the main floor – over near the newspaper and magazine area. They accept donations of gently used books for all ages – in good condition, and free from must and mold. Most items are $1.00 or less. With proceeds from the sale of these books, SYLA funds many programs at the library, provides a number of museum passes for free or reduced entrance to many places of learning, and contributes to staff and community events – the “icing on the cake,” here at the library.  It is open whenever the South Yarmouth Library is open, and you pay at the front desk. Come browse the Little Corner Bookstore.

At the West Yarmouth Library, there is an ongoing book sale, too, on the shelves near the front door. An affordable way to make sure you always have something to read and a great way to support the library.

Yarmouth Bag Ban
to Take Effect August 30

The Town of Yarmouth's plastic bag ban, passed by voters at the May 2017 town meeting, goes into effect on August 30, 2018. Retailers will no longer be able to distribute thin-ply plastic bags, although some exceptions apply. The town encourages use of reusable bags as an environmentally-friendly alternative. The town's decision, based on environmental concerns, was in line with bag bans passed in most of the 15 Cape towns. Statewide, such laws have been passed in 80 cities and towns, including Boston.

Plastic bags exempt from the ban include those used for newspaper delivery and those used to wrap frozen or damp items such as meat or fish. For more information visit: https://www.yarmouth.ma.us/DocumentCenter/View/8886/121217-Chapter-160-Plastic-Bag-Reduction-By-Law-FAQ-?bidId=.
