Overview
The Division is charged with the management of the Town-owned, 66 acre producing cranberry bog.
Due to the amount of manpower and time it takes to operate and maintain this amount of acreage as well as a market to sell the crop, the Division maintains a lease with a private cranberry grower.
Revenue
The Division receives a payment of a percentage of the harvest revenues on an annual basis. Cranberries are bought and sold as a commodity.
Marketing Issues
Due to recent market conditions the price of a barrel of cranberries has fallen nearly 75%.
An increase in the total number of barrels entering the market from newly-constructed bogs in Wisconsin and Canada has contributed to the decrease in the barrel price.
However the market price for cranberry products at the stores have not reflected the market drop. Unfortunately the market will not see a recovery anytime soon.
