Happy holidays, everyone! The libraries are humming with joyful activities, programs and stories for the winter solstice and holiday season. The Who-ville Express takes off on Monday, December 9, starting with a 4:00 trolly-ride…and while tickets are all gone, there is a waitlist. Call the Children’s Room for more information. And $20.00 tickets are going fast for this year’s Cookie Stroll, to be held on Saturday, December 14. Mark your calendars for a double-decker Saturday of fun on December 7 – and read all about it in this letter. Peace.

Holiday Cookie Stroll Tickets

Now on Sale!
Stroll takes place on Saturday, December 14

South Yarmouth Library

This year’s cookie stroll honors Carol Ann and Bob Morris and features 14 Bass River sites, festive cookies, and a holiday stroll book. Mini-bus transportation will be available. This is the largest fundraiser for the South Yarmouth Library Association, and the $20.00 tickets do sell out. This year’s Cookie Stroll is on Saturday, December 14. Gingerbread House Challenge

Starts Thursday, December 5
South Yarmouth Library

Calling all architects and designers! You are invited to a delicious design contest. Create your one-of-a kind gingerbread house at the South Yarmouth Library on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:00 p.m. Registration is required. The project is designed for grades 5 and up. Completed gingerbread houses will be on display in the Children’s Room at South Yarmouth Library and photos posted on Facebook. Family, friends and library visitors can vote for their favorite, in person or on the Library’s Facebook page, beginning Thursday, December 5, until Friday December 13. Awards will be presented on Saturday, December 14, at 12:00 p.m.

Musical Discoveries

A musical experience for the whole family! For infants to 5-year-olds and their caregivers. Singing, small and large motor movement, instruments and fun.  Classes are FREE and are held in the Leonard Room. Our thanks to the South Yarmouth Library Association for their continued support of this popular family program. Registration is not required.

Good Stories, Well Read –
the Holiday Edition

Toby Wilson has put together another year of holiday and traditional short stories, to be read by Cape Cod actors – for your listening enjoyment on Saturday, December 7, at the West Yarmouth Library, starting at 2:00 p.m. in front of the fireplace. You can think of it as “Story Time for Grown-ups.” And it's FREE. You won’t want to miss this! Bring a friend or neighbor. Refreshments are available, thanks to funding from the West Yarmouth Library Association.

Jeff Snow, a seasonal Cape Cod resident, will share his love of Celtic music and holiday joy with us on Saturday evening, December 7, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the lovely Lorusso Lodge at Flax Pond, off White’s Path in South Yarmouth. This event is FREE. Bring the family! Refreshments will be available. Funded and co-sponsored by the South Yarmouth Library and West Yarmouth Library Associations and with a grant from the Council on Aging in Yarmouth.

The Who-ville Express

Reserved tickets are for seatings at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Trollies are currently FULL. We are taking names for the wait list and will call people, if space becomes available. If you have a reservation, please be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your trolley departs. We thank our library associations for funding this popular program and for their hard work to make it fun.

Family-to-Family
Christmas Giving Program

The Yarmouth Town Libraries participate in the Family-to-Family Holiday Giving program sponsored by the Cape Cod Division of the Department of Children and Families. The program helps families in need and children in foster care. At each library, you can pick up a decorated  "ornament" with a child’s name, age and wish list. Gifts should be wrapped and brought to the libraries, along with the ornament. The deadline for giving is Monday, December 16. We appreciate your participation in this Cape-wide community project.

Census Bureau

Job Opportunities

The U.S. Census Bureau currently has job openings in preparation for conducting the 2020 Census. Work is temporary —from 6 weeks to 9 months. To apply for a position, log onto www.2020census.gov/jobs. Once there, you will complete a profile providing the Census with your email address. (An email address is required.) A link is sent to your email for you to complete a short application and assessment. All jobs require 2 days of training in a classroom plus 3 days at home. It is mandatory and paid. Applicants must be 18 and over, have a valid Social Security number, be a US Citizen, and have a valid email.
