The Island of Worthy Boys Book DiscussionSaturday, April 13, 2:00 p.m. South Yarmouth Library Yarmouth residents Jane Garvey and Helen Niedermeier will facilitate a discussion on the circumstances that led Aiden and Charles to the farm school on Thompson Island back in the early twentieth century. Bring your thoughts and questions to this lively discussion. Tickets for the Finale will be available, as will printed programs of the series of Yarmouth Reads 2019 events. Light refreshments will be served.

Meet at the Yarmouth Town Hall at 9 a.m. for route assignment. Wear comfortable footwear and clothing. Bring gloves if you have them. Then, join us for a free appreciation lunch following the cleanup. Call the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce at (508) 778-1008 for more information.

Instruction by a 4-H Program Associate. This program is free! Funding provided by South Yarmouth Library Association.

In celebration of The Week of the Young Child, join us as we create cool things from your imagination using loose parts, bits and bobs of unique and inspiring materials. Save the Date: April Book Discussion Group Tuesday, April 23, 3:30 p.m. South Yarmouth Library The Library’s Book Discussion Group meets monthly at the South Yarmouth Library. This month, we will be discussing Rin Tin Tin, Susan Orlean’s sweeping account of Rin Tin Tin’s journey from orphaned puppy to movie star and international icon. Orlean, a staff writer at The New Yorker, spent nearly ten years researching and reporting this book: the story of a dog who was born in 1918 and never died. Meetings will be in the Leonard Room and last for an hour.

April is National Poetry MonthDrop by the Children’s Room at both the West Yarmouth and South Yarmouth Libraries for an assortment of poetry activities. Throughout the month, we will provide supplies for “Found Poetry,” Magnetic Poetry, Pop-up Poetry reading, and more!

2019 Cecelia Siemen Scholarship Open for ApplicationsThe South Yarmouth Library Association offers the Cecelia Siemen Scholarship in the Visual Arts. The $3,000 award advances the study and knowledge of someone in the visual arts. To be eligible, applicants must have completed one academic year at a college or art institute by the end of the school year in which the scholarship is offered.
Applications are available now at the South Yarmouth Library or from the Library website. Applications include the completed form, course work transcripts, three (3) letters of recommendation, a portfolio, and personal statement.
