From the DirectorSummer is almost here. The libraries are gearing up for Summer Reading, for Saturday hours at West Yarmouth (11-4, starting June 2), Little Free Libraries at the beach, and for a fun and busy time. Lifelong learning opportunities abound: on June 6, Yarmouth Department of Public Works (DPW), along with a variety of guest speakers, present an informational series on recycling, including changes to newspaper and mixed paper recycling at the South Yarmouth Library, and on June 16, updates on corrugated cardboard and plastic bag use at West Yarmouth Library. Saturday Hours return to the West Yarmouth Library June 2! The West Yarmouth Library will be open on Saturdays, from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., beginning Saturday, June 2, through the end of September.

Little Free Beach LibrariesLittle Free Beach Libraries are “open for business” on a take-a-book-leave-a-book basis at the Bass River/Smugglers Beach in South Yarmouth and at Seagull Beach in West Yarmouth. Welcome, Summer!

Meet the Author: Marie Fricker, Cancer SurvivorThursday, June 28, 7:00 p.m. South Yarmouth Library Marie was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. She was treated with chemotherapy, but was given only a 20 % chance of surviving 5 years. Over 8 years later, her story of fear, perseverance, and hope sheds light into the dark abyss of battling a catastrophic disease. Appropriate for infants to 5-year-old children and their caregivers. Classes incorporate singing, small and large motor movement, instruments and fun. Classes are FREE, thanks to the South Yarmouth Library Association who fund this popular family program.

Summer Reading Kick-off Event:Libraries Rock! Wednesday, June 27, 2:00 p.m. At the West Yarmouth Library Featuring special musical guests “The Elbows” and field day games. All ages are welcome. Children under eight years old need to bring an adult. Special thanks to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office for providing the tent for this event.
“Libraries Rock!” is sponsored by the Yarmouth Town Libraries, the South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth Library Associations, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

We will be open for business that day and all materials that are on-site at the West Yarmouth and South Yarmouth Libraries will be available.

Yarmouth Reads 2019Please help us choose what book we will read by filling out a survey card or flyer. You can find them at the places listed below and drop your completed card or flyer in the box provided. The Library Board thanks you for your ideas and participation.

Donations for the Holiday Cookie StrollThe South Yarmouth Library Association welcomes donations of holiday fabric to make the signature bags for its annual Holiday Cookie Stroll fundraiser held in December. Pieces should be at least 1 yard in length. Donations can be left at the main desk of the South Yarmouth Library at 312 Old Main Street. Thank you!
