From the Director:July was indeed glorious on Cape Cod, although a bit warm. We are fortunate that we can often get ourselves to the waterfront to cool off, are we not? Library staff has been working on keeping deliveries moving since Phase II curbside delivery started up in mid-June. It is great to hear folks calling in with long-held reading, listening and viewing requests. So many happy phone calls! Watch for more information as the days go by, as we prepare for a reopening for the public (with some restrictions, of course…) Do not hesitate to contact me if you have comments, questions or concerns. Happy August! -Jane Cain Library Director

Good news for our ebook borrowers! In June and July, we purchased many of our users' purchase recommendations in Overdrive - with funding from the South Yarmouth Library Association - as well as many other titles, greatly increasing that collection. Please remember that if you are not finding a title in Overdrive, you can recommend the title on clamsnet.overdrive.com (search for the title, then scroll down to under where it says "Didn't find what you're looking for?", and click "Recommend" underneath the title's image and name) or, as with any other purchase suggestions, you may call the library or email ckaufmann@clamsnet.org and recommend that we purchase the title you are seeking.

Staff Pick: The Turner House by Angela FlournoyIn an attempt to diversify my reading this summer, I have been choosing books from the New York Times recent bestsellers lists, which are trending with stories, memoirs and accounts written by authors of color. If you like family sagas that teach you something about a place and a time, try The Turner House, by Angela Flournoy. Members of the Turner family of Detroit are dealing with what to do with the now-empty family home where 13 children grew up with their wise and sometimes challenging, but mostly loving, parents Francis and Viola Turner. It is a moving story of the challenges of urban living, the peculiarities of a long marriage, coping with a dozen siblings and all that, and it is very well written.

New Picture BooksTiny Bird by Robert Burleigh When the last summer flowers open their petals to the sun, it’s time for a tiny ruby-throated hummingbird to dip its beak into the heart of each bloom, extracting as much nectar as possible before the hard trip ahead. Today is the day Tiny Bird begins its amazing journey south for the winter, traveling as fast as thirty miles an hour for hundreds of miles on end. The trip is long, with savage weather and many predators along the way, but Tiny Bird is built for this epic journey and (spoiler alert) eventually arrives at its winter home.
The Three Little Yogis and the Wolf Who Lost his Breath by Susan Verde Once upon a time there lived a wolf who lost his huff and his puff. It was a BIG, BAD problem! One morning, the wolf came upon a peaceful little yogi doing sun salutations. The wolf wanted to huff and puff and blooow her hut down into a big pile of straw. But instead the yogi suggested, “Let’s meditate on that!” Soon the wolf met a second yogi, and then a third. He may have lost his huff and puff—but with the help of three new yogi friends, can the wolf find his breath?

New NonfictionFred's Big Feelings: The Life and Legacy of Mister Rogers by Laura RenauldFred Rogers was a quiet boy with big feelings. Sometimes, he felt scared or lonely; at other times, he was playful and joyous. But when Fred’s feelings felt too big, his Grandfather McFeely told him: I like you just the way you are. In a portrait full of warmth and feeling, Laura Renauld and award-winning illustrator Brigette Barrager tell the story of Mister Rogers: a quiet, compassionate hero whose essential message—that it is okay to have and to express feelings—still resonates today.
